The Bayonne Town Center, the BEDC, The BUEZ and The Marketing Department have created this innovative program of workshops and one on one consulting for the local business community.  The workshops focus upon the key elements for success such as identifying unique identity strengths for individual businesses, defining who they are as a community, what they have to offer one another and their respective towns, and who their customers and clients are.  The overall goal is to utilize knowledge gained in these workshops to create an action agenda for business development and growth.  In addition, the Bayonne Town Center’s innovative program of niche and co-operative advertising opportunities will be explored by attendees.

Relationships are valuable, and essential to success in small business, according to Mr. Schultz.  Local businesses differ from their larger competitors, in that they can know and care about their customers as individuals, he said.  And the Bayonne Town Center agrees.  They believe that by developing this sense of community with proper strategy and commitment, the business center in downtown Bayonne can become destinations with as much pulling power as any mall, they said.

There are many ways in which local businesses can improve their effectiveness according to THE MARKETING DEPARTMENT experts Mr. Schultz.   Some may seem self-evident, such as knowing who their customers are.  But, in fact, knowing who customers are is not self-evident, they said.  Zeroing in on customer demographics requires ongoing research because communities are constantly turning over and the needs of the community are ever changing.  In fact, average New Jersey local communities experiences a 20% or greater turnover rate each year.  With local schools in the mix it’s even higher.   The truth is, they said, at any given time our businesses don’t have a real understanding of who their potential customers are!  Knowledge acquisition in this one area will make an incredible difference to our business communities, they said.
