BAYONNE, NJ – July 20, 2009. The Bayonne Town Center and the City of Bayonne would like to announce that Geovanne Costa is the winner of the 2nd Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest, sponsored by Petridis Hot Dogs and Forum Fitness Club. Costa received a 1 year membership to Forum Fitness club and a trophy.  In 12 minutes he ate 19 Sabrett hotdogs!

The second place winner was Anthony Clarkin (17 Sabrett hotdogs) who received a 6 month gym membership and trophy and third place winner Matt Feeney Jr. (16 Sabrett hot dogs) who won a 3 month membership and trophy.  At the end of regulation Matt Feeney Jr. and Joseph J. Wigdor were tied with 14 hot dogs for 3rd.  Two hot dogs were given to the contestants and whoever finished them first was declared the 3rd place winner. 

This year’s contestants were: Joseph J. Wigdor, Joshua Borges, John Soto, Ross Castellano, Mark Yaroskowicz, Kevin Ottino, David O’Bryant, Geovanne Costa, Anthony Clarkin, Christopher Martinez, Jonathan Kaye, Chris Martinez, Dennis Alfonzo, Matt Feeney Jr., Louis Carrerio, Pat Amicito, and Mark Sarnowski.

The contest was held on Saturday, July 18th at 11:30 in front of Petridis Hot Dogs on 25th Street & Broadway during the 29th Annual Sidewalk Sale.  18 contestants ranging in ages from 18 years to 71 years participated in this contest.

We would like to thank Councilman Connolly, Bishop Robinson, Gary Chmielewski, Mary Divock, Aida Figueroa, Charles Mainor, Aubrey Powell, John Kapnisis, Mark Bottino, and Carol Merrick for judging this event.  Special thanks to Eddie Broderick for being the emcee.  We would also like to thank Jack Musarra and his staff at Petridis Hot Dogs for making this event so successful and also a big thanks goes to Darin Accettulli at Forum Fitness Club for donating the prizes.
