The Heart of Bayonne Reached out to Katrina Victims.

BAYONNE, NJ – October 5, 2005 – On August 27th, the Gulf Coast, especially those in Louisiana, was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Many of those families have relocated to other parts of the country, leaving everything they knew to start a new life somewhere else. IMTT has relocated approximately 30 families from Louisiana to the Bayonne area. These families came with whatever they could salvage from their destroyed homes.

The Bayonne Town Center reached out to district businesses requesting donations for these families in need. Contributions started with the donation of 60 children's back packs and coolers to a local relief effort. As always, the Town Center business owners showed their support of the Bayonne community, donating services and gift certificates to help shoulder the burden of these families. Thus far, over $1,000 has been donated by these generous Bayonne Town Center businesses: Sasson's Youth World, A Cut Above Hair Cutters, Aloi's, The Candle Cottage, Klothes Kloset, Carvel, Colonial House of Pets, Color & Cuts, and K&D Jewelers. The Bayonne Town Center would like to thank all of these businesses for their willingness to reach out to these new members of the Bayonne community and their ongoing generosity to and support of the Bayonne Town Center's efforts.

Cathy Jakubowski, Executive Director of the Bayonne Town Center, stated that district businesses are still welcome to donate gift certificates to this cause. Ms. Jakubowski would like to remind residents and businesses that monetary donations can be made to the City of Bayonne's Hurricane Katrina "Operation Bayonne's Caring Hearts" Fund. Checks can be made out to Operation Bayonne Caring Hearts and sent to P.O. Box 992, Bayonne, NJ 07002.
